Have you ever been in a situation where you messed up? You wished you hadn’t said that statement or did what you did?

Sometimes even when we know what is the right thing to do, we fall when trialing moments come.

One day, when I was pondering on this I began to hear the song “What a friend we have in Jesus”, where it says “take everything to the Lord in prayer.”

That’s when I realized that sometimes it was not the lack of knowing the Word that caused me to fall, but that it was a lack of prayer.

I was backed with the Word but wasn’t backed with prayer.

Is it important to pray for ourselves?

Yes! It is so important for us to pray for ourselves. This is one of the most important teachings I’ve heard my spiritual father, Prophet Derrick D’Souza, teach on recently. He showed us how Jesus, being the Son of God, had to pray with loud cries and tears to the only One who was able to save Him.

“In the days of His flesh, Jesus offered up prayers and supplications, with loud cries and tears, to Him who was able to save Him from death, and He was heard because of His reverence.” (Hebrews 5:7)

Many times we don’t overcome certain temptations because we think we can overcome with our own strength. God wants to help you. All you need to do is ask Him for help, seek Him for His grace and understanding, and knock until you get your breakthrough.

Jesus said to his disciples in Matthew 26:21, “Watch and pray so that you will not fall into temptation. The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.”

Remember the incident at Gethsemane? Jesus asked three of His closest disciples to pray for at least an hour, but they couldn’t because they were genuinely tired. So tired that they couldn’t even stay awake. Yet their genuine tiredness did not stop Jesus from asking them to pray.  Because He knew that the hour of trial was coming.

If you have been often falling in an area though you know the truth, it’s time to cry out to God to help you overcome it.

Prayer & the Word– You Need Both!

Girls, we need the backing of prayer as much as we need the backing of the knowledge of the Word. Because there are also times when we pray a lot and are still struggling or falling in an area because we haven’t understood God’s heart for us in that situation.

And the way you will know God’s heart for any situation is through the Word of God. Prayer and Word are like the two wings of a bird– we need both to fly with Jesus.

You are more than an overcomer in Christ Jesus. Soar high with Him this year!
