There are two kinds of people: those who are eager to be directed by God and do His will, and those who go through life directing their own lives according to their own thoughts, beliefs, and emotions.

But the Bible reminds us in Jeremiah 10:23:

“O Lord, I know the way of man is not in himself; It is not in man who walks to direct his own steps.”

It’s not in us to direct our own steps. We need God. We need to depend on Him and seek His will and direction for our lives.

Direct my Steps

Acknowledge God in Every Area of Your Life

One way we seek God’s direction is by acknowledging Him.

Proverbs 3:5–6 says:

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, And lean not on your own understanding;
In all your ways acknowledge Him,
And He shall direct your paths.”

To acknowledge means “to admit the validity, authority, or truth of.” So, acknowledging God means recognising His existence and yielding to His authority in every area of our lives.

Recently, my mind was completely blocked at work. I had worked on the same kind of report before, but this time I felt stuck and couldn’t seem to do anything.

Suddenly, I realised that throughout that whole day, I hadn’t acknowledged God. So I quickly said, “God, I give this into Your hands. I know You are here.”

A few minutes later, I received the grace to finish the work within one to two hours.

Don’t Leave God Out of Your Everyday Life

That experience made me realise how easily we can fail to acknowledge God in all our ways.

Maybe we think about God first thing in the morning or read our Bible, but then go through the rest of our day without involving Him.

Even more importantly, we can forget to acknowledge God in the big areas of our lives like our marriage decisions, jobs, relationships, and future. Sometimes, we make decisions on our own and only learn through the consequences and hard knocks that we should have sought God’s direction.

God doesn’t want to be included only in certain areas of our lives. He wants us to depend on Him and acknowledge Him in all our ways.

So let this be a reminder: acknowledge God in every area of your life.

Trust Him instead of leaning only on your own understanding, and allow Him to direct your steps every step of the way.
