Before you start reading this, can you take a moment and look at yourself?

Many of us see ourselves based on what our family, friends or people around us have said about us at some point in life.

Maybe you were told that your complexion was not so fair. And for years you have not dared to step out of your house without makeup. ‘Dark’ became your identity.

Fear is a liar

Or maybe a friend jokingly said that your face cut was odd, and from that moment you went into a shell, losing your confidence and hiding behind your oversized spectacles. ‘Inferior’ became your identity.

Maybe someone made fun of your pronunciation and the once bubbly girl now has become timid and an introvert, finding everyone else better than her. ‘Shy’ became your identity.

You made a terrible mistake in life and every day you are haunted by condemning thoughts. ‘Failure’ became your identity.

Hold on!

What if I told you that’s NOT who you are? That’s NOT your identity. You’ve simply been looking at the wrong mirror!

Now close your eyes and ‘look’ at yourself again. But this time, I want to remind you how God sees you.

You are beautiful, just the way He created you! (Psalm 139:14). No filters. No effects. Every mole, spot or kink on you is precious!

You are unique, valued and accepted by Him! (Isaiah 43:4). That means you don’t have to run in popularity races or strive for a man’s acceptance.

You are loved unconditionally! (Romans 8:38–39). There is nothing you have done or could ever do that would make God stop loving you.

And girl, you are worth waiting for! You are worthy of being pursued and honoured for more than just your physical attributes.

Now that is your unchangeable identity, irrespective of your past or what people have said about you.

This isn’t to motivate you. These are unshakeable truths from God’s Word that He wants you to know!

For too long, you have been looking at yourself through the eyes of others. But your real worth is found when you begin to see yourself through God’s eyes.

Start seeing yourself as He sees you, and His Word is your reference point.

We talk more about this and how to protect yourself from relationship pitfalls in our best-selling book, Girls, Here’s What You Never Knew. This book is worth the buy!

XOXO
