Is My Temptation Beyond My Control?

Is My Temptation Beyond My Control?

Temptation is the desire to engage in short-term urges for enjoyment that can destroy long-term goals and well-being.

Suppose you have a long-term goal to run a half marathon, and completion of this goal will make you feel that you have achieved a certain level of healthy lifestyle. However, you find yourself tempted to eat sweets or junk food. And, if you keep giving in to this short-term urge, it will be impossible to reach your long-term goal of completing a half marathon.

It is not a sin to be tempted; even Jesus faced temptation (Matthew 4:1-11). However, it becomes tricky when we yield to it.

Here is what I believe—if I find an excuse good enough to convince me that it is out of my control, I will give in to that temptation. Let us talk about our favorite excuse: “I am tempted”. If I think about these three words, they actually mean “it is not in my control”.

We believe that we can’t always overtake a strong temptation, so we end up giving in. Well, if we go by this, aren’t we forever doomed? But the Bible gives us hope that our later days will be better than our former. (Haggai 2:9)

temptation

Is your temptation beyond your control?

Temptation in any form, say laziness, overeating, social media, or addictions, is our enemy. 1 Corinthians 10:13 says, “No temptation has overtaken you that is not common to man. God is faithful, and he will not let you be tempted beyond your ability, but with the temptation he will also provide the way of escape, that you may be able to endure it.”

This verse gives me hope that I am not the only one tempted; many before me have been tempted, and they were able to overcome it. The biggest lie we believe is that “It is impossible”. But the above verses clearly say that whatever the temptation we are facing, God will also provide the way out.

Here are a few verses that evidently tell us that God has given the enemy into our hands:

“And blessed be God Most High, Who has delivered your enemies into your hand.” Genesis 14:20

“The Lord said to Joshua, ‘Do not fear them, for I have given them into your hands; not one of them shall stand before you’.” Joshua 10:8

“Deborah said to Barak, ‘Arise! For this is the day in which the Lord has given Sisera into your hands; behold, the Lord has gone out before you.’” Judges 4:14

Does this mean God has given temptation in our hands?

A big Yes!

Wow! To know that temptation does not have any control over us, but we have full control over it changes the entire game. Every time you get tempted and you hear a lie that it is impossible to overcome, remind yourself of the above verses.

If God has given temptation in your hands, what do you do with it?

Deuteronomy 7:2 says, “and when the Lord your God delivers them before you and you defeat them, then you shall utterly destroy them”. You shall make no covenant with them and show no favor to them.”

The above verse teaches us 4 valuable instructions to follow when tempted:
1. You defeat it.
2. You utterly destroy it.
3. You make no promise/covenant with it.
4. You show no mercy/favor to it.

Temptation does not have power over us. By relying on God’s Word, the Holy Spirit, prayer, and the support of a faith community, we can stand firm against the lure of sin.

Remember, the same power that raised Christ from the dead lives in us (Romans 8:11), equipping us to overcome every temptation. So, the next time you face temptation, boldly declare, “Temptation has power over me!” and walk in the victory that Christ has already secured for you.

Try Something New … What if I fail?

By Sheryl Gadre

This audio book is very close to my heart, because it is my first project as a narrator!
Let me share with you my story of God’s grace.

Since childhood, I have dreaded to read aloud to a crowd. The handful of times I had tried, I admit the experience was unpleasant. In nervousness, the letters in my book seemed jumbled leaving me struggling and stammering. As though that was not enough, I had started to dislike my voice, as many people had hinted that I was nasal.

Years passed by, still felt the same about reading aloud – never wanted to do it.

At the start of 2020, I remember hearing my spiritual mother encouraging us saying: We should try and do everything we fear we can’t do, and achieve victory in it. Because unless we move beyond our comfort zones, we will never be able to experience the grace of God in those areas.

Try Something New,come out of your fear box,The call

Face your fears and conquer

At the time my spiritual parents Pastors Derrick and Kim encouraged me to convert their blog posts into podcasts.

And so, I entered the world of podcasting with zero broadcasting experience, and not to forget my “nasal voice”.

The Bible says in Philippians 4:13, I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me. This verse became my truth while I was learning and preparing for this.

I was determined to overcome this fear by being intentional – reading about podcast hosts, recordings systems, audio editing platforms and voice modulation exercises.

Over the few months while I was doing my best to improve my voice; God was working inside of me, changing my heart. The Lord told me He was ready to use me, if I was available and willing to commit to serve His people.

I realized that God did not need my voice to be perfect, he only needed me to be committed to serve.

And as I started accepting that, my focus moved from me and my fears to serving and being a blessing to many.

Voila! Soon we launched our Pursue Him Audio Podcast last year in July. Click HERE to check out our episodes in case you haven’t already. Our episodes are short (mostly less than 10 minutes) and cover topics related to Christian Walk, Leadership, Marriage, etc.

You will be amazed to know that recently we hit a century, with 100 episodes already published!

Rise up & Do it

Girls, if the Holy Spirit is nudging you to do something, but you are scared because you think you will fail or you will not be good at it. Let me encourage you “Rise up & Do it”. Don’t wait to attain perfection in order to start, but start anyways!

In every step of the way depending on the Holy Spirit, He will take you from one victory to the other. And alongside, continually build your skills, learn, practice and repeat.

I was never interested in technology, could not even imagine “audio editing”. Today, I love editing audio and the creativity you can bring to the table through audio.

Feeling Inspired?

I look forward to seeing you pick a skill and overcome your fears. Mail me back here and I would love to cheer for you.

Till we meet again, remember: You are unstoppable in Christ!

I Don’t Like My Smile

I Don’t Like My Smile

Identity issues

“A cheerful look brings joy to the heart; good news makes for good health.” (Proverbs 15:30 NLT)

When I was younger, I smiled and giggled at every silly thing. But one day, a random stranger commented, “She looks good, but her teeth are jutting out”. My friends, who heard this statement repeated it every time we met and made fun of me.

I was only a teenager at that time, and that statement scarred me. I became conscious of my teeth every time I smiled, talked or laughed. So much so that, I even changed the way I smiled for photographs.

This incident left a deep scar in me.

When I had an encounter with God, I realized that God loved me so much that He was willing to heal me of every visible and invisible scar. I could sense the sweet Holy Spirit nudge me every time I smiled and was reminded of that stranger’s statement, until one day I surrendered that scar to Jesus. He touched me and I was healed.

Not only this, but wonderful Holy spirit reminded me of my identity, I am Royalty!

But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light (1 Peter 2:9)

Hey girl, even as you are reading this, let me remind you – You are beautiful inside and outside, any shape or color. In the eyes of God – You are beautiful, You are Royalty!

And know that there is no scar so deep that God can’t heal, no mistake so bad that God can’t forgive, no problem so big that God can’t solve. All that God needs is your surrender.

And know that you don’t have to do this alone, we are with you.

If you are struggling with a similar hurt or scar, we encourage you to write to us at [email protected], and we would love to pray with you.

Shh…God has a surprise!

Shh…God has a surprise!

Identity in Christ

For I know the plans I have for you,” says the Lord . “They are plans for good and not for disaster, to give you a future and a hope.

I am certain that many may have quoted this scripture from Jeremiah 29:11 to you or maybe you know it by heart.

I myself have stood on this scripture in many circumstances. Until recently, when I was seeking the will of God in a situation, but did not get an answer in a simple “Yes / No” .

The wonderful Holy Spirit then whispered to me, “If you buy a surprise gift for a certain person, would you reveal the content of the gift beforehand?”

From then on I wake up every morning rejoicing and knowing that I may not be able to see my future, but it is definitely not uncertain. I may not know the chronology of events that may follow in my life. But my future is filled with possibilities and hope!

His thoughts are higher!

Dear girl friend, this note is especially for you – Until God your father is on the throne your future is not uncertain. The Bible says in Psalms 97:1

The LORD reigns, let the earth rejoice; let the many coastlands be glad!

Another translation says: The LORD is King! Tell the earth to celebrate and all islands to shout. (CEV)

Put your trust in God, His choice and His thoughts are always a better option to choose.

I love the story of Ruth from the Bible, She chose to follow God even though her mother-in-law could not promise her a secure future. That one decision changed her destiny and she was included in the bloodline of King David.

Let me close by reminding you again, God has a plan and a purpose for your life and even as I am writing this, I am praying for you that as you seek God and meditate on His word, He will reveal it to you!
