Fighting Battle Without Words

Fighting Battle Without Words

Women today like to be outspoken and bold to speak their minds and have an opinion about any and everything around them. The society that we live in, encourages women to be forthright and demands that their rights be exercised. We see that outspoken women get places of honor in society and at work. And the story ends. What next?

It makes me think: Is this what our life is all about?

Words

A Battle without Words

Being outspoken can win wars but do you know there is a battle that can be won without words (1 Peter 3:1) with just observing a pure and reverent life. As 1 Peter 3: 4 says, our beauty should be that of your inner self, the unfading beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which is of great worth in God’s sight.

This a kind of battle a true woman of God should be interested in and should fight. This is considered as the unfading beauty in the eyes of our Father God.

Heard about Michal, the daughter of King Saul in the Bible?

In 2 Samuel 6:23 it says, “Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.

This above verse made me go knocking to her door to see what exactly she did to get such a verdict. And, here’s what she did – she publicly belittled King David by her proud speech and brought her own destiny to a standstill.

Woe!

Let us learn lessons from Michal’s life

2 Samuel 6:16 mentions, Michal watched King David dancing and leaping before the Ark of God as he was carrying it back to the City of David. She despised him in her heart and she so wanted to speak it out. She met David before he could go into his house and voiced her displeasure to him.

David’s reply to Michal won the heart of God and he always remained a man after God’s own heart. But 2 Samuel 6:23 says, “Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.”

She just spoke her mind out right? What’s wrong in that?

Well, it’s not always good to speak loudly the thoughts that originate from your selfish desires, especially those which are not in line with the Word of God. What Michal spoke was so disrespectful and from a place of lack of understanding that God put a period after her name!

Michal spoke were she had no governance and brought humiliation and reproach that set her course for her entire life span.

Also, she spoke her displeasure to a man whom God said that he is a man after His heart. Now that’s a problem. God is a shield for His anointed.

Michal remained unfruitful all throughout her life. The Bible goes on to say in 2 Samuel 21:8 that rest of her life she raised five sons for her sister Merab. A word spoken cannot be recalled or taken back. But what we can do is be led by the Holy Spirit in whatever we say.

Hey friends, let us take lessons from Michal’s outspokenness. Let us weigh every thought that crosses our mind and speak only that which edifies and builds others. Let us refine our words with the Word of God before we speak. As it is written in Ephesians 4:29Let no corrupt word proceed out of your mouth, but what is good for necessary edification, that it may impart grace to the hearers.

I cannot promise you that by doing this we will be able to salvage the bridges we have already burnt down with our unwholesome talks. But I can assure you one thing that if we set a guard on our words and speak the language of God, we will attract His favour.

Even as this article on how we can fight our battle without words is speaking to you, can I encourage you to change your words by renewing your mind (Romans 12:2) and hold back those words that do not edify your hearers? I pray as you decide to do so from today may my God give you grace upon grace to carry it forth.

XOXO,
Shiney Varghese

An Effective Way to Approach Your Battles

An Effective Way to Approach Your Battles

We face battles of some sort every day. It could be fighting an addiction or facing mind battles. Maybe it is to be kind to unkind people you deal with every day. Maybe you are battling sickness. Every day there is a battle that we need to win victory over. And a Christian cannot afford to take a break from his Christian life. But do you know, there’s an effective way to approach your battle and get victory?

Regardless of what kind of battle we face, one thing is common- our fight is not against flesh and blood.

victory everyday

The Bible says the devil roams like a roaring lion to see whom he may devour. We have an enemy who is waiting for any chance he may get to make us fall.

This means our approach towards the battles we face must be first a spiritual approach which then produces results in the natural.

Let’s look at an effective way to approach a battle from the Book of Deuteronomy.

“When you go out to battle against your enemies, and see horses and chariots and people more numerous than you, do not be afraid of them; for the Lord your God is with you, who brought you up from the land of Egypt. So it shall be, when you are on the verge of battle, that the priest shall approach and speak to the people. And he shall say to them, ‘Hear, O Israel: Today you are on the verge of battle with your enemies. Do not let your heart faint, do not be afraid, and do not tremble or be terrified because of them; for the Lord your God is He who goes with you, to fight for you against your enemies, to save you.”
Deuteronomy 20:1-4

The Israelites received a specific instruction from God before they went into battle. The priest would come forward and address the army saying do not be afraid or terrified. For the Lord your God is the One who goes with you to fight for you against your enemies to give you victory.

This was a declaration of victory, even before it was won in the physical.

The same principle can be applied when we are in a spiritual warfare or even when facing our daily challenges.

A declaration of victory can change the way we enter the battleground.

Maybe you are preparing for an exam or waiting for some results; believe and declare victory.

Maybe you are fighting an addiction or a bad habit. Believe and declare everyday that you are set free by the power and grace of God.

Maybe you are facing strife in your relationships. Declare peace over your relationships.

Declare victory over whatever battle you are facing today.

Ria Jobin

One particular song that became my repeat mode-companion then was: Mention of Your Name by Jenn Johnson (Bethel Music), especially the words, “You are my strength, You are my anchor, And You never fail

Part 2: Here’s How To Get The Right Attention!

Part 2: Here’s How To Get The Right Attention!

Last week I wrote about how to get the right kind of attention. We learned from king Ahab how he got the attention of God by responding to God’s Word which is humility and repentance. To read the full post go here: Attention Seeker? Here’s How To Get The Right Attention!

We will dive in a bit deeper on repentance. In The Bible, the Greek word for repentance is metanoia which means change of mind/ thinking. In other words, repentance means changing from your way of thinking to God’s way of thinking.

The act of repentance not only gets God’s attention but the whole of heaven celebrates it. Lord Jesus says in Luke 15:7 “Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.”

Part 2: Here's How To Get The Right Attention!

God Is On A Look Out

In the message version of Isaiah 66:1-2 the Word of God says

“But there is something I’m looking for:

a person simple and plain,

reverently responsive to what I say.

These are the ones I look on with favor:

those who are humble and contrite in spirit,

and who tremble at my word.”

Wow! God is looking out for people who are responding to His Word! And not only that, He looks at them with favor!

Power of God When You turn

When you obey and turn from your old ways to follow God’s ways or to change from your thinking to God’s thinking, God empowers you with His Spirit upon you and will make His Words known to you.

In Proverbs 1:23,33 The Word of God says ” If you turn at my reproof(rebuke):

Behold, I will pour out my spirit upon you;

I will make my words known to you…

but whoever listens to me will dwell secure

and will be at ease, without dread of disaster.”

Remember a man or a woman of God with a humble spirit is the one who depends on God for everything! He no longer trusts in his own strength but he trusts in God’s goodness and strength.

This week as you repent or change your thinking may you also be dependent on the strength and power of God in everything you do!

Xoxo
