We prefer surrounding ourselves with people who agree with us and make us comfortable, don’t we? These friends that we choose more often than not, reflect the condition of our heart and more importantly, will influence the person we are going to be tomorrow.

That’s why more than like-minded friends, we need Christ-minded friends! You need to surround yourself with those who think more like Jesus and less like you.

The Bible says in Proverbs 13:20, “Whoever walks with the wise becomes wise, but the companion of fools will suffer harm.”

Who is a Christ-Minded friend?

So you may be wondering, what is a Christ-minded friend like? Proverbs 11:30 says, “he who wins souls is wise” – this can only be a hallmark of a Christ-minded friend.

Christ-minded friends are friends who genuinely love the Word and who can correct you in the ways of God. As David says in Psalm 119:63 NLT, “I am a friend to anyone who fears you— anyone who obeys your commandments.”

When David committed adultery with Bathsheba, it was his friend Nathan the prophet who confronted him and that opened David’s eyes to the blunder he had made.

“Iron sharpens iron, and one man sharpens another.” (Proverbs 27:17)

Christ-minded friends are precious because they are not afraid to challenge you to look more like Jesus, speak more like Him, and be more like Him.

The Bible says, An honest answer is the sign of true friendship (Proverbs 24:26).

Another example of godly friendships is Daniel and his three God-fearing friends, Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. They were brought to Babylon as captives, but in their friendship they stood together against all odds – whether being in danger of annihilation by King Nebuchadnezzar, or whether being thrown in the fire for their faith.

The end result of their lives? God raised them to influential positions in the province of Babylon next only to the king.

Oh the sweet joy of godly friendships where your faith and love for Jesus becomes contagious and together you start influencing the world around you.

Choose Friendships That Will Keep You in the Perfect Will of God

You see, “Two are better than one, because they have a good return for their labour: if either of them falls down, one can help the other up. But pity anyone who falls and has no one to help them up.” (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10)

There is nothing greater than to be in the center of God’s will for your life – that’s where you will find success and abundance of joy flowing into your career, marriage, family, ministry and everything that is connected to you. Christ-minded friends will drive you into this!

This season let’s evaluate our friendships. Are they pushing us closer to Jesus, or are they drawing us away from Him? Remember, the friends you choose to keep will influence not only your present but also our future. So, choose well!
