My 11 year old son taught me a lesson about the heart of God, which I want to share with you. Recently, as I entered our bedroom, it was a sight. There were toys and books all over and everything was in so much disorder. The culprit was my son, Jeremiah.
Trying to be a calm mother, I asked him, “Son, do you see the mess? What can you do from your side to help?”
And He did something out-of-the-box. He opened an umbrella over him and hid his eyes under it and said, “Mama, now I can’t see the mess, so I don’t have to do anything.”
When God sees we are messed, He doesn’t put His head down in shame – that’s what we do. And we hide. Or like Jeremiah, try to put things out of our sight thinking it’s all ok.
But that’s only a temporary solution. God looks at us beyond our present state and gives us the permanent solution by settling all our fears down and calling us the way He sees us.
When Peter the fisherman encountered Jesus, in Luke 5, it was a miracle meet. He had worked all night without any catch. But at Jesus’ Word he lowered the net and his nets were filled with fish.
Peter’s reaction was something different. It was not “wow” or “thank you” or “amazing, what a miracle”. But he immediately fell on his knees and said to Jesus – Go away from me, I am a bad guy. You don’t want to see what a mess I am.
Again, Jesus’ response to this was not – “So true, you need to repent”, but He says: You think you are bad ah? Do not fear. From now on, I am going to use you to bring “bad” men to me.
That’s how passionate God is for us. Today no matter what you are hiding from God, or what you are trying to shove in His presence, remember God is not looking at that, God is looking at you… and not even looking at you in your mess, but looking at you as He sees it- a conqueror!
