I often hear the phrase, “I am just looking”, to which one means that they are doing a harmless act.

Girls, purity starts in our hearts and not in our actions. So we may not be acting on the thoughts, but if our heart is not pure, it means we are struggling with lust.

“But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.”
(Matthew 5:28)

In the above verse, Jesus explains that not touching or talking but just looking is also lusting.

Lust starts with looking; looking then turns to meditating, which then turns to action.

That’s right! Even “just looking” is harmful.

Just Looking

Here are some ways you can remain pure in your heart and actions:

1. Renew your mind daily:

Reading your word and being intentional at seeking God will help you overcome the temptations of the flesh daily. Find scriptures that will strengthen your faith and help you overcome every wrong thought. The Word that you have meditated and believed will give you the strength to stand strong in the face of temptation.

2. Remember, you are not alone:

Can’t believe the lie that you are the only one getting tempted. Many struggles with lust. So it is important that you get plugged in with a good community of Christian girls that will encourage you, pray with you and lead you to Jesus.

3. Flee from sexual sin:

Get rid of the bad influence in your life—the people, the place and the things that drive you away from God. It could be certain friends, movies, or even certain books that take your heart and mind in the wrong direction. Be bold enough to bid farewell to whatever takes you away from God because it is not worth it to lose your God-destiny.

4. Remember, it is not impossible:

It is possible to practice purity because, as born-again believers, we are spirit beings. If we live by the spirit, we should also walk in the spirit and practice the fruit of the spirit, i.e., “self-control”.

5. Pursue the reward of purity:

Keep reminding yourself it is worth it to practice purity because Jesus promises in Matthew 5:8, “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God”.

If you are struggling with lust, let me encourage you there is hope, and we believe your future is great. Write back to us if you need prayers or want to get connected to our community.
