Today, something unusual happened.

I had just returned home and was unlocking the door when I noticed a small sealed packet neatly placed outside.  Since we had not been there the previous day, I assumed it was a delivery that had arrived in our absence.

Without thinking much about it, I picked it up and carried it inside.

When I opened the packet, I was shocked.

Trash

It was filled with trash.

For a moment, I just stood there wondering what had happened. Then it dawned on me -it wasn’t a parcel for me at all. It was my neighbour’s garbage, neatly packed and left outside for the trash collector.

I immediately threw it away and washed my hands. Yet even after that, I felt unsettled. Later, as I spent time praying, I brought before the Lord an issue I had been wrestling with for some time- a certain irritation that kept surfacing in my life. I had been asking Him, “Lord, where is this coming from? Why do I keep struggling with this?”

I sensed the Lord speaking to my heart: “That irritation is not yours. It is something you picked up along the way.”

The connection was immediate.

Just as I had unknowingly picked up someone else’s trash and carried it into my room, I had been unknowingly carrying patterns, attitudes, and reactions from my bloodline that were never meant to be part of my life.

As I continued praying, I felt the Lord show me that some of these patterns had travelled through generations. They had become so familiar that I assumed they were simply part of who I was.

Not everything that runs in your bloodline has permission to define your life. Some of the thoughts that you are battling, they don’t even belong to you.

The Bible says: “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” (2 Corinthians 5:17)

“Do not conform to the pattern of this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind.” (Romans 12:2)

As I prayed, I repented for agreeing with things that were never God’s design for me. I chose to let go of what I had been carrying.

Then I began declaring a greater truth:

I belong to my Heavenly Father.

His nature is my inheritance.

You were created to reflect your Heavenly Father

Maybe there are habits, thought patterns, reactions, fears, or limitations in your life that you’ve carried for so long that they feel normal. Maybe they came through family history, life experiences, or things you picked up from those around you.

Take a moment and ask the Lord to reveal their source. If He shows you something that doesn’t belong, don’t keep carrying it.

Lay it down.

Invite Him to renew your mind, heal your heart, and reshape your identity according to His truth.

You were created to reflect your Heavenly Father, and not the broken patterns of the past.

XOXO
