Looking for Change? Stop!

Hey girls, haven’t we sat in classrooms and pews and heard teachings and messages about how change can bring a radical difference in our lives? And like me, you might also have thought that this was your neighbor and not you.

But there’s something that I heard a man of God say recently that caught my attention and reminded me something about my life – “Anytime you blame something external for your problems, you cannot make an internal change”.

Why I remained stagnant

 I could recollect those days where I blamed everyone and God for all my shortcomings and failures in life. Everyone was the reason except me. Let me elaborate – There was a phase in my life where I blamed others and God for my failures. After my graduation, when I could not find a placement, I blamed my parents for not educating me enough. When I could not crack an interview, I blamed God for being partial towards me. I reached a point where I believed that God is not for me and is against me. This delayed my progress and made me stagnant in my spiritual as well as corporate life.

But God had mercy on me. And in His mercy He sent to me my spiritual mentor Author Kim D’Souza with a promise from Gen 28:15 in early 2018. She read it out loud to me,

”I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”

As I heard her saying this, I heard God.

I realised that all God needed from Jacob was his surrender. And, all that God needs from us too is surrender.

If something needs to change, it’s me!

From that day something started to change within me. My eyes opened up to see that if something needs to change its “Me”.

Let’s rewind to the time when the first man Adam fell into sin blamed the woman God made for him. And, the woman blamed the serpent instead (Gen 3).

You see! That’s ingrained in our natural human DNA to find a scapegoat for our failures.

Having done that Adam and Eve lost the company of their creator and was expelled for the Garden of Eden. This continued with their offspring as well. (Gen 4) Cain got angry and blamed Abel for his sacrifice not being accepted by God. In his anger he killed Abel and ran away from God. If Cain only had to look into his intent behind offering God a crippled sacrifice, he would have found the reason for God’s displeasure. Instead he blamed an external factor (his brother Abel) and believed him to be the reason for God’s displeasure.

Thank God for the generation that we live in, that we have men and women sent by God to interrupt the plans of the enemy in your life. Forever grateful to my spiritual mentor Author Kim D’Souza who came in at the right time to show me that God is for me and not against me. From that point on I started to look deep into areas of my life where I kept blaming God for my failures. I changed my confession about God and started to declare His goodness in my life. And, really things started to change in my life thereafter.

When my perspective changed, things began to change

The very fact that I am loved and accepted by God gave me so much confidence that I started going boldly to face interviews and even got a job that I’m content and happy with currently. When my perspective changed, things began to change for good in my life. Surely as the Man of God said and I quote him again “Anytime you blame something external for your problems, you cannot make an internal change”.

As you read this article and are looking for things to change around you. Can I urge you “Stop the futile pursuit of changing the world around you”. Instead, be the change and ask God for wisdom and ideas to bring that very change in your life. Remember as you surrender, it may not be easy, but His grace is always going to be sufficient.

God holds us accountable to renew our minds, and not wait for others to renew theirs! And then we will be able to see the goodness of God and how He was there for us all along. As Romans 12:2 says, “Be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God’’.

Changing with the renewal of our mind will bring the best out of us!

This is a tested and proved truth in my life. May this truth be yours too in Jesus Name!

Becoming Un-offendable!

“Then Jesus went out from there and departed to the region of Tyre and Sidon. And behold, a woman of Canaan came from that region and cried out to Him, saying, “Have mercy on me, O Lord, Son of David! My daughter is severely demon-possessed.” But He answered her not a word. And His disciples came and urged Him, saying, “Send her away, for she cries out after us”. But He answered and said, “I was not sent except to the lost sheep of the house of Israel.” Then she came and worshiped Him, saying, “Lord, help me!” But He answered and said, “It is not good to take the children’s bread and throw it to the little dogs.” And she said, “Yes, Lord, yet even the little dogs eat the crumbs which fall from their masters’ table.” Then Jesus answered and said to her, “O woman, great is your faith! Let it be to you as you desire.” And her daughter was healed from that very hour.”

Matthew 15:21-28

Offense

 

The Syrophoenician woman had every reason to be offended at Jesus. When I read this passage, with honesty I told the Lord, ‘Lord if this was me, I would have been offended’.

Then I heard the Lord say, ‘If she had taken offense and walked away, she would have walked away from her daughter’s healing. But because she persisted with humility, she received her healing.”

Wow, that made me think, how often has offense kept us from our healing, how often has it kept us from our breakthrough.

I pray as you read this post, you will identify the areas of offense that are keeping you from your breakthrough. And I pray that you will become un-offendable and persist with humility just like this woman.

 

Offense a hindrance

Offense is a hindrance to our freedom, even when it argues that we have the right to be offended.

It stops you in your tracks, it delays your God given mission and destiny.

Offense, I believe, breeds from wrong expectations, especially from someone close to you. You expected them to be a certain way, and it turned out the opposite.

False expectation from man always leads to disappointment.

It is time to stop expecting from man, and start trusting God.

Offenses will come but may we refuse to hold hands with it. May we be the un-offendable ones in our generation!

Can Birds Speak!?

Read the title? Can birds speak!? And I’m sure you are looking at me with a sigh and thinking, “come on, everyone knows the answer is: No! Birds cannot speak!”

Really?

Well, recently, one morning I refused to wake up! Kept shutting down multiple alarms and snuggling back in my blanket (ps: supposedly my prayer time). I heard the Holy Spirit ask me to get up many times but I kept saying, “Lord, I’m so tired, please just 5 more mins and I’ll get up.” But eventually didn’t.

Birds Speak

 

The parrot who spoke.

And then… I had this ‘one funny parrot’ come and sit on my window.

Suddenly, this parrot starts screaming for nothing!!! And trust me I’ve had parrots come at my window and go away and make a little noise. But this one! Was too much, ooo!

For the record, parrots can be really loud!!!! And to top it up, this was not any ordinary parrot for sure.

I remember, trying to shut my ears with my pillow and continue sleeping. But this parrot would just not shut up.

Finally, I gave up! I got out of my bed grumpy and angry at the parrot. And I opened the curtain with great force.

(If you know something about smaller birds, they’re quite scared creatures. A little movement and they’ll fly off)

But this parrot ahh… When I opened the curtain suddenly, instead of flying off with fear, it stopped screaming, sat eagerly, and started staring at me. Not only so but I noticed it was popping its head as though it was just waiting for me to come outside.

Daddy is too good, ooo!!

When I saw that, I started laughing!!!! Couldn’t help but think that Daddy sent that parrot to wake me up to spend time with Him because I wasn’t getting up. I started jumping and praising. I couldn’t help but smile at how cute God is!!

Now you may say, hey, that’s just one parrot and it could be a coincidence.

Wait hear me out!!

Another morning a few days ago I promised God that I would get up at a certain time to pray, but eventually didn’t. Hours passed by and guess what? This time I hear 2 parrots on my window, screaming. Immediately I jumped out of my sleep, knowing that God sent them. And this has happened a couple of times now….

Now I’m sensitive to parrots. I believe with all my heart every time I’m sleeping and a parrot knocks on my window it’s actually the Father telling me, “daughter get up and pray.”

Anyway, you know that parrots can speak if you train them a bit, right? But here’s something that made me absolutely leap for joy.

Parrot speaks

 

The sparrow who spoke.

One afternoon, as I was walking up and down my bedroom and praying, suddenly thoughts of worry started ‘worrying’ me. (Pun intended) I started getting thoughts of the expenses coming up and the amount needed to cover it, etc. But, as I continued to pray, guess what happened?

A sparrow comes and sits on my window. Now you see, parrots are still common visitors but sparrows are rarely ever seen sitting on my window. But this time it did.

And again this sparrow was different. It was one chubby, healthy, round sparrow. One like I had never ever seen before.

Immediately the Holy Spirit very sweetly said to me “isn’t it well fed?”

And I was like, “yes yes, very well fed.”

And the Holy Spirit said, “right, and you are worth more than many sparrows.”

Immediately I was reminded that the Word of God says in:

Matthew 6:26-27
Look at the birds of the air, for they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they? Which of you by worrying can add one cubit to his stature?

Matthew 10:29-31
Are not two sparrows sold for a copper coin? And not one of them falls to the ground apart from your Father’s will. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Do not fear therefore; you are of more value than many sparrows.

When I saw that, tears filled my eyes. And my heart was fully convinced that “Yes! my heavenly Father feeds even the little sparrow. And look at it, it is indeed well fed. How much more will my Heavenly Father take care of all that I need.”

You see now how birds can speak? Don’t be surprised. Do you not know that the Bible says in Genesis 1:28..

Then God blessed them, and God said to them, “Be fruitful and multiply; fill the earth and subdue it; have dominion over the fish of the sea, over the birds of the air, and over every living thing that moves on the earth.”

You read that right. Dominion! That’s the call on our life. And when we begin to truly understand that, hey, expect such things to happen.

So, coming back to the question. Can birds speak? Well, literally speaking, I don’t know about that. But I definitely have a God who can speak to a woman walking in dominion through birds. So be intentional today and look out. Maybe your Father in heaven is speaking to you today through these little birdies…

You’re NOT Beautiful!

You’re NOT Beautiful!

You’re not beautiful! You’re so dark! You look like an ‘ugly duckling’! She looks so much better than you! Why do you have that spot on your face? Look at those dark circles, don’t you sleep? You’re so fat, lose some weight! You’re so skinny, don’t you eat!

Heard these lines spoken over you before? I’m sure you have. And not just heard but I’m sure you’ve also accepted and believed some of these words. And guess what? You’re now living with it and you don’t even know it.

Let me tell you, these words are LIES STRAIGHT FROM THE PIT OF HELL.

This is not your identity!

 For the word of God says in Psalm 139:13,14 (emphasis mine)

For you formed my inward parts;
you knitted me together in my mother’s womb.
I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made.
Wonderful are your works;
my soul knows it very well.

Beautiful

 

Hmm… Very easy to quote this Scripture, isn’t it?

And if you’ve been in the church long enough, I’m sure you even know it by heart but the truth is not many of us truly understand this Scripture and hence cannot come to terms and believe that our Father in heaven actually speaks this over us.

Before we go on to understand this scripture let me share this with you. All my life I had a problem with the way I looked. I didn’t like what I saw in the mirror and more often complained of how if only I was a little fair, or if I was a little curvy, or if only this or that was slightly different wouldn’t it be so much better? And remember, all this while I knew this verse by heart, yet believed these lies.

And why was that?

Because of ‘words’!

Well, the enemy is a master at planting tares. All he has to do is slip one lie in your ear and that lie keeps piling up. Years down the line you’re putting loads of brightening creams to change your look and you don’t even know that the root actually began when some aunty came and said “why are you so dark, who will marry you” or when your neighbor came and called you a raccoon because you had dark circles.

But God wants to set you free today!

One day while I was in the house of God with my spiritual parents, my father called out my name and said to me “Do you know you’re beautiful?”

When I heard those words I couldn’t help but start weeping. He went on to say “This is what God told me to tell you, it’s not so much about the outward beauty as much as the inner”. When he spoke that over me, I could see all the words that people spoke over me in all these years that I was holding deep down break and fall to the ground and I saw the love of the Father like never before.

Knowing things in the head is not enough.

Girls, just knowing things in the head is not enough!

So often we read that verse and think “God knit my body” and back of our minds we think, “couldn’t He have done a better job?” But the truth is, God, knit your spirit and made you perfect, in glory as His original plan. As my spiritual father says, “the earth suit (physical body) that you see is what your parents gave you, but your spirit, ah, that’s made of the DNA of God.”

And therefore, when God sees your spirit He says, “ahh, My beloved daughter, you’re fearfully and wonderfully made.”

Now, can you see what this verse truly means and how God speaks this over you?

You know, from the day I understood this, I can look up boldly, the love of the Father secures my heart. And even if the enemy uses people to speak words over me, I can still stand up boldly and say “Shehh, My Father says I’m beautiful, you shut up!”

Hey, you may feel that you’re just reading these words from a blog post, but I urge you to look in the spirit. Right now, God is calling out your name and speaking this over you!

I pray as you see this in the spirit and receive understanding, let all the words that people have spoken over you break and fall to the ground in Jesus’ name. I pray that right now the love of God will secure your heart and you will be able to refute every lie of the enemy that says ‘You’re not beautiful.
