Why I Gave Up on Non-Christian Media

Why I Gave Up on Non-Christian Media

stay away from non christian media, guard your eyes, guard your ears

If you had met me any time before two years, and we were to have a conversation, sooner or later, you would realise that I was really into movies. I was the kind of person who bragged about my movie collection- horror, sci-fi, Korean dramas, medical series, RomCom, I had it all! Hours of my time was spent on watching and re-watching these.

Here’s my story of how I overcame this love of my flesh.

When I was in my third year of college, a friend invited me to attend church with her. This church was unlike my traditional orthodox church. The presence of God was so evident. I didn’t comprehend it fully that time, but I knew something moved in me and I wanted to know God more.

When God convicts, Listen!

One of the first convictions I had after this encounter with the Lord was regarding my love for non-Christian media, be it movies, series or songs. I knew the Lord was speaking, but my flesh and my soul argued- but it takes my mind off everything else, it makes me feel good, everyone watches it Lord! But the Lord remained silent to my tantrums.

Few months later, I was taking a stroll one evening with a friend from the same church. As she shared with me, her encounters with the Lord, my heart was burning. I asked her what she thought about non-Christian media. She just said this, “If the Lord is convicting you, you must listen to Him”.

That conviction sank deep in my spirit, and now it began a good work in me. As I kept seeking God, He opened my eyes to things I couldn’t perceive before.

Here are two main reasons I feel why non-Christian media is toxic:

1. Manipulated perspective

“For as he thinks in his heart, so is he”. Proverbs 23:7

The eyes and ears are windows to your soul. What you constantly watch and hear alters the way you think. Worldly movies make Christianity look boring and wickedness look fun and exciting. They excite your senses and manipulate your emotions.

I was addicted to one of the popular comedy series years back. One day, when I was with some friends, they played an episode of this series. One of the actors cracked a joke that was directly against my Christian faith. Initially I laughed but then soon I realized what I was doing. I decided in my heart never again to watch it again. This was my first big breakthrough!

I have heard countless stories of how this media is addictive and can cause irrational fears and anxieties to develop within you. These have an innocent, glamorous appearance on the outside, but at the core of it is darkness.

“The eye is the lamp of the body. If your eyes are good, your whole body will be full of light. But if your eyes are bad, your whole body will be full of darkness. If then the light within you is darkness, how great is that darkness!” Matthew 6:22-23

2. Irretrievable Time

“The thief does not come except to steal, and to kill, and to destroy. I have come that they may have life, and that they may have it more abundantly.” John 10:10

The enemy knows that your time is precious, and he will do everything to steal it. A study shows that the average person spends more than 78,000 hours of their life watching television. Don’t allow the temporary pleasures of this world to steal your time, which once lost, cannot be retrieved.

“Show me, O LORD, my end and the measure of my days. Let me know how fleeting my life is. You, indeed, have made my days as handbreadths, and my lifetime as nothing before You. Truly each man at his best exists as but a breath.” Psalm 39:4-5

Over the years that followed, the closer I got to Jesus, the entertainment of this world got dimmer and dimmer until I no longer desired it.

I believe you are not reading this by chance. If there is any bit of conviction in your heart regarding this area of your life, I would say, Ask God to reveal to you, what you cannot see. Only He can fill the vacuum of your heart and give you a life of abundance!

What My Burnt Hand Taught Me 🔥👋🤕

What My Burnt Hand Taught Me 🔥👋🤕

Read the Word,Obedience,Obey,Character building

Recently as I was cooking, I happened to uncover the lid from the cooking pot in a hurry and whooosh..the steam came out in the direction of my hand and burnt it. I screamed with pain while my mom looked at me and laughed. Initially I was confused at her response, but then I realised a month back, my mom had given me instructions on how to uncover the lid from a pot that is filled with steam using a spoon. (For those who don’t know  – First I had to slide the lid to the side with the spoon , let the steam come out from the other end and then hold the lid with the cloth on the other end and ta-da!) I didn’t remember this instruction before doing it but when I got hurt I remembered it very well.

God’s instructions are our protection

And that’s our story!

Most of us don’t heed to God’s instructions and open ourselves for hurt , pain and discipline. It’s the hard knocks that brings us to realisation.

But better is to obey an instruction than face a destruction.

Whoever despises the word and counsel [of God] brings destruction upon himself, But he who [reverently] fears and respects the commandment [of God] will be rewarded. Proverbs 13:13 AMP

Instructions? Where do I find them?

If you are like me and you want to avoid the hard knocks you need to hear instructions!

Here are four tips to not miss instructions:-

1. Read the Bible every day. God speaks in your situation and will instruct you before you face the situation.

2. Meditate on what you read, understand what God wants to say to you and then apply the Word of God in real life.

3. Listen to the Word of God when shared by a man of God. Now that globally most of the church services are happening online, it’s so easy to get distracted in the comfort of our homes. So be super intentional when you are joining a service. Go to your study room and not your bed :p Take a book and pen and note things down or comment on the video what you have learnt.

4. Be accountable to your leaders. Your leaders have walked more than you and seen more, ask them for advice and wisdom. Write to them or call them. Don’t take your leaders for granted, they are kept there for a purpose. The more you ask, the more wisdom you draw from them.

10 Differences between a Girl and a Woman

By Kim D’souza

    By Kim D’souza

Recently I happened to watch a video clip by Pastor Vlad of Hungry Generation Church on the topic 10 differences between a Boy and Man. Here is the link (A must hear for those who consider themselves as men!) I thought it would be nice to have a girl-woman version of it. So here you go:

Here are Ten Differences between a Girl and a Woman

1. A girl craves for attention from people and has an overwhelming concern about her physical appearance. She is under constant pressure to look a certain way and hence makes irrational and extreme choices to keep up to it. A woman knows that she holds the attention of God! She realises that charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but what matters the most is the fear of the Lord (Proverbs 31:30). Her mirror is the Word of God, and she is confident in the fact that she is beautiful the way God created her – Real, unfiltered and ‘unphotoshopped’ (Psalm 139:14).

2. A girl dresses up for the approval of others and in the process ends up in a compromising lifestyle. The way she dresses is to attract people to her. A woman on the other hand dresses up for Jesus, she knows she is the daughter of a king. “So shall the king greatly desire thy beauty: for he is thy Lord; and worship thou Him…The king’s daughter is all glorious within: her clothing is of wrought gold. She shall be brought unto the king in raiment of needlework…” -Psalm 45:13-14 (KJV). Her clothes carry the finesse of the royalty that runs in her blood – and that attracts the people not to her, but to the King! (That also means she is not casual about her clothing).

Girl – Woman… Who does God say you are?

3. A girl is frivolous in her attitude, takes life as it comes and is easily swayed by situations and the opinions of people around her. Her life revolves around her friends, date nights, social media followers, likes and comments. Her social accounts follow every Tom, Dick and Harry. A woman knows that she has a powerful assignment from God, and every decision she makes in her life is in consciousness of this fact. She doesn’t accept every friend or follow request she receives! She doesn’t linger with time-wasters, and is very careful who she walks with. You see, a girl lives for the moment while a woman is intentional about leaving a legacy behind!

4. A girl’s attitude and lifestyle give access for boys to make approaches, while a woman clothes herself with dignity (Proverbs 31:25). Her walk and her talk are filled with grace, and yet others know where to draw the line. A girl always blames others, while a woman knows that her respect is in her hands!

5. A girl is reckless with her body and uses it provocatively to gain people’s attention, but a woman sets an example before the world in everything – including the way she takes care of her body. She knows that her body is the temple of the Holy Spirit and she leans on God’s wisdom (James 1:5) to steward it. She adapts healthy eating habits, maintains personal hygiene and always smells good!

6. A girl is quick to get into relationships and easily pulls her walls down. She struggles to say no because she doesn’t want to break the heart of the opposite person. A woman knows that she is worth far more than rubies (Proverbs 31:10). She is bold enough to say ‘No’ and preserves her body for the union of marriage. Not breaking God’s heart is more important to her than anybody else’s!

7. A girl often compares herself with others and in the process, she ends up harboring jealousy, pride, offence or low esteem. A woman is secure in the love of God and is thankful to God in everything (1 Thessalonians 5:18). She celebrates when others succeed and lifts others up when they fail.

8. A girl is driven by her temporary craving. She thinks that she is the center point of the entire universe, and lavishly spends on herself and her never-ending shopping list! A woman knows that it is more blessed to give than to receive (Acts 20:35). At the same time, she is a good steward of the money and knows how to plan for her future and her family.

9. A girl is led by her emotions and mood swings. She is very sensitive to what people say and makes her tears a crutch. A woman learns to become sensitive to the Holy Spirit more than people around her. She knows that her tears are precious and makes them her strength by shedding them at the feet of Jesus.

10. A girl uses her tongue to spark fire and cause great damage to herself and others. A woman knows that in quietness and trust is her strength (Isaiah 30:15). Many a time she wins her battles with her conduct, and without words!

And God saw it!

By Derrick D’souza

    By Pastor Derrick D’souza

Have you ever taken a step back and thought about all the pain, shame and the brokenness that you went through when you were away from the light of God and were believing the lies of the devil?

I want to tell you that God saw all that the enemy was doing to you, even as He was waiting for you to run to Him. All that the devil used – his lies, deceit, wickedness, his thoughts of death and condemnation to crush you, GOD SAW IT!

And here’s the Good news – Because God saw it, this is what HE is going to do, now that you have believed HIS WORD and entrusted your life completely to HIM.

Habakkuk 3:14 – “With his own spear You pierced his head” …

Everything we go through, GOD sees..

Isn’t it a wonder that every time the devil used a scheme to bring destruction to God’s people, God used the very same thing to crush and pierce his own head! There are many examples in the Bible, here are a few :

When Goliath came with a sword to kill David – David cut Goliath’s head with his own sword.

When Haman prepared a gallow to hang Mordecai – God used the same gallow to hang Haman on it.

The devil knocked out God’s first man (ADAM whom God created) and made him sin and thought he had won the battle. But God smiled and said now I will send another MAN (Jesus – God in flesh) and HE will crush your head and not only that, every other man born-again from this MAN will do the same to you forever and ever and ever and ever and ever AMEN.

What am I saying?

LISTEN, whatever the devil is using or has used against you, to attack you, to bring guilt, shame and sickness, God is going to take that very same thing and pierce his head with it!

What the devil is doing to you today, will be his death stroke tomorrow, IF, you don’t give up on the Lord and stand strong on HIS WORD.

Your life will be a testimony to history that –

What came to cause evil has become a source of freedom to many!

What life was lived in shame will bring inspiration to many!

What life was plagued with scars will bring healing to many!

This is what the Spirit of God is crying out through my heart as I write this post to you. “My dear brother & sister, if you are going through a valley right now, don’t give up, take courage that God has seen all the tears and the mistakes and HE is ready to take the same spear used to inflict you and crush the enemy with it.

Will you believe God today, give HIM your life, your broken relationships, your past and present mistakes and surrender your life to HIM? HE will take it and turn it around and cause all the evil to work out for your good (Romans 8:28).

God is not looking at your “Sin” – HE paid for it with HIS “Blood”, HE is looking to Save YOU and HE is mighty at saving, just read the Bible and you will find out! No one has ever perished on HIS watch!

If you have never committed your life to Jesus completely, then this is your opportunity, don’t delay.
